CASE STUDY: Fire/Smoke
Heinz Hall
In the middle of the night Heinz Hall personnel heard a fire alarm blaring somewhere within the building.
Upon arrival, the fire department discovered that a freight elevator motor had caught on fire which had emitted thick black acrid smoke throughout the space.
When D.T. Mistick responders arrived on the scene, they discovered that smoke was still lingering throughout the building and settling on all the ornate metal, paint, granite, marble and fixtures.
D.T. Mistick Project Managers suggested that the area affected by the fire as well as the smoke be cleaned immediately to mitigate further damage to the surfaces.
D.T. Mistick worked over a two week period to restore all the areas affected by the smoke, scheduling around performances, events and tours.
A man-lift was brought in to safely vacuum the walls, ceiling, gold leaf and chandeliers to be certain that no residue was left to etch the surfaces and ruin the artistry of the interior.
